September 30th - November 4th 2024, Mondays, 14h30-17h30, online
With 2024 marking the anniversaries of the Venice Charter on the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites (1964), the Nara Document on Authenticity (1994) and the Florence Declaration on Heritage and Landscape as Human Values (2014), a series of webinars will be held between September 30 and November 4, dedicated to the fundamental issues of the UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972), namely the Conservation, Authenticity and Sustainability of World Heritage Sites.
The Webinar Cycle is based on the interventions at the IX Iberian Meeting of World Heritage Managers, which took place at the National Palace of Sintra on September 16 and 17. Organized alternately by Portugal and Spain at World Heritage sites, the Iberian Meetings of World Heritage Managers, which are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, have been held between specialists from Spain and Portugal who are responsible for managing the heritage of each country on the World Heritage list, as provided for in the World Heritage Convention, and are an important framework for analysis, the exchange of information and experiences, and the sharing of good practices in areas that are very relevant to the protection, conservation and enhancement of this heritage.
Organized, like the IX Iberian Meeting, by the UNESCO National Commission, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Património Cultural I. P., and Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua, S.A., the Webinar Cycle has the logistical support of the UNESCO Chair "Heritage, Cities and Landscapes. Sustainable Managment, Conservation, Planning and Desing" of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.
The sessions will take place at 14H30 - 17H30 (Lisbon) / 15H30 – 18H30 (Madrid) and will be streamed on UNESCO National Comission's Youtube channel.
